Spirogyra (zip-Datei)
This is a 3D print file for a tactile model of Spirogyra, a common green alga found in lakes, ponds, and slow-flowing streams and rivers. The model represents key biological structures such as the supporting cell, the helically arranged chloroplasts, and the rod-like body shape, allowing learners to explore these features through touch. Spirogyra belongs to the class Chlorophyceae and is known for its characteristic spiral chloroplasts and simple multicellular structure. Printing several copies and gluing them together is recommended to better illustrate the elongated form of the alga. The model was designed and tested as part of the 3D4VIP project. Printing instructions and tips: 3D printing of the half cylinder should be done on the cut edge. Support can be helpful if necessary, but is not mandatory. The helix must be printed standing on the half circle. Support cannot be dispensed with for the helix, a 100% fill is useful. Care should be taken when removing the support structure.
